Books That Will Make You Laugh

toptentuesday2

Hey everyone! I’m back for another Top Ten Tuesday, hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s topic is Ten Books That Will Make You Laugh. I tend to like books that make me both laugh and cry, so this was a more difficult. I actually ended up doing some books that I thought were funny and some books I think would be funny.  Let’s get started!

Funny Books/Series I Have Read

Magic and Manhattan series by Sarah Mlynowski

I’ll be honest, it’s been awhile since I read this series. It’s about a girl named Rachel who discovers her younger sister has magical powers that just skipped her. So in true big sister form, she makes her sister use her magical powers to make her more popular. It’s a light and fun series and shouldn’t be taken super seriously but I also remember it being really funny. Also recommended: Gimme A Call by the same author.

Heroes of Olympus series by Rich Riordan

This series is a follow-up series to the Percy Jackson series, and it’s one of those that will make you laugh on one page and cry the next. For those of you unfamiliar with the Percy Jackson series, it’s about young teens who have one parent that’s a human and another that’s a Greek god. They are called demigods and eventually go to Camp Halfblood to learn how to use any powers that are connected to their godly parent and how to fight and become Greek heroes.  The Heroes of Olympus series brings the Roman camp into the mix and kinda delves into how the Greek and Roman relationship works all with a big expansive, multi-continent Greek quiz. The books have a lot of situation comedy but also all the different  character’s senses of humor also makes these books hilarious.

You’re Never Weird on the Internet by Felicia Day

I kinda picked up this book randomly over the summer. I had seen The Guild but didn’t know too much about Felicia Day otherwise. She’s had a pretty interesting life so far. I really liked reading about how she got to where she was today. And of course, she is hilarious.

Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? by Mindy Kaling

I really like Mindy Kaling’s sense of humor and when her first book came out, I picked up pretty soon after it came out. At the time, I had only seen her on The Office and while I really enjoyed her, I didn’t know too much about her. The story of her life up to that point was also really interesting and I am so sad I haven’t read her next book yet.

Confessions of Georgia Nicolson series by Louise Rennison

This is another light-hearted series about her British teenager and her friends. While there is some situation comedy in these (teenagers and their shenanigans, man. I can’t get enough apparently), mostly what I find funny is the way the characters talk. Their slang is very interesting and just the way they talk is really funny.

Funny Books I Want to Read

Bossypants by Tina Fey

Tina Fey is hilarious! I loved her on SNL and 30 Rock. I would think her memoir would be very interesting as to how she got to be where she is today.

Yes Please by Amy Poehler

Amy Poehler is another one I really love, possibly even more than Tina Fey, though I know they are good friends. Amy just speaks to me. I loved her on Parks and Rec and would love to see her journey as well.

Why Not Me? by Mindy Kaling

As I mentioned earlier, I’ve already read Mindy’s first memoir, so why not read her second? I loved her on The Office and I love The Mindy Project (I was actually just catching up on it last night; I’ve really loved the season so far). So I feel like it’s only natural I pick up Why Not Me?

What are some of your favorite funny books? Let me know in the comments!
